The Band with Paddy Purcell outside Games Room
Vanbrugh Castle School supplied the sopranos for the Royal Naval College Chapel Choir from the 1930's, the other parts were sung by Naval College members.
In about 1960 the W.R.E.N.'s at the College were invited to supplement the soprano voices.
In previous years if the choir was required to enter the Chapel by the West door, they would file, in a very orderly fashion, down the steep steps from the vestry side door, across the quadrangle and through the collonade to the Chapel entrance.
It seems things were less formal later on.
By this time the pleated neck ruffs which used to be worn by the choristers had been discarded.

The 1969 Speech Day.
Various R.A.F. stations were encouraged to make cakes for special occasions to foster the link between serving personnel and the school. Here are two examples.
The message on the cake says : To the R.A.F. Benevolent Fund, Vanbrugh Castle School. With good wishes and good eating to the pupils, staff and parents on this your annual important day and as the R.A.F say - "Tally Ho for the holidays". The other cake has depictions of planes taking off from runways, and above them various squadron insignias.
